Family Support
Our Family Support Services focus on strengthening and preserving families. Our staff work together with birth, foster, and adoptive families to ensure children are provided with a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. Our priority is to prevent the removal of children from their birth families. If that becomes necessary for the safety and well-being of a child, we provide a welcoming foster home with extensive supports, and we strive to strengthen the birth family in an effort to reunite them with their child. When that is not possible, we offer full adoption services so that children may find a loving, permanent home.
Foster Care & Adoption Services
Foster Care
Foster care provides safe, loving homes for children and youth of all ages who have been temporarily removed from their birth homes. Our resource (foster) families are vital partners in providing care, support, and a safe, nurturing environment for the children placed with them. Our foster care program certifies and trains resource families and supports families as they care for the children. Our goal is to assist in reunifying these children with their family of origin whenever possible. When that is not possible, we help find children a permanent home.
We are experienced in placing youth who need specialized foster care due to medical conditions, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges. In addition, we are trained to address the needs of youth in the LGBTQ+ community.

Adoption
We are an affiliate agency of the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN), which serves children in the custody of county children and youth agencies. Our SWAN program provides services, free of charge, to families who have provided permanency through adoption, formal kinship, or legal guardianship. We assist the family to identify strengths, establish goals, and locate community resources for ongoing support.

In-Home Services
Family Preservation

We provide in-home services to families involved with the Allegheny County Department of Children, Youth, and Family Services. Services can include parenting education, home management, budgeting, and making links to community resources such as food banks, utility assistance programs, family support centers, and mental health counseling. We often works with families who have one or more children at imminent risk of out-of-home placement in order to preserve a safe and stable family setting. We also work with families who are in crisis after a child has been moved to an out-of-home placement. We strive to stabilize the family so that the child may be returned to their care.

We work with families to help them understand their child’s diagnosis and identify the resources necessary to help them manage their child’s unique needs. We assist parents or caregivers in advocating for their child with doctors, nurses, and other community supports. Our staff will support your family and manage the often overwhelming demands that come with a variety of special medical circumstances.
